Gearing Up

  • Coaches and Managers

Your coach is responsible to supervise you and your team and will be staying in the Games Village in a coaches room. Your manager is responsible for the overall coordination of your team. They will be in contact with your region's Chef de Mission leading up to and during the Games. They will also be staying in the Games Village and will support the coach in supervising your team.

Chef and Assistant Chef de Mission

The volunteer Chef and Assistant Chef de Mission support each Team Manager and Provincial Sport Organization (PSO) with the planning and implementation of all tasks to ensure the regional teams’ successful selection and staging for the Manitoba Games. They also help make sure you have fun, and get familiar with the Games environment.

    Getting around Dauphin

Buses will take you to your sport venue and participant special events. All departure times from the village to the sport venue (and vice versa) will be scheduled to allow you to arrive at the venue with lots of time to warm-up and get ready for competition. These times will be shared with you by your coach.

    Departing Dauphin

August 14 is what is known as turnaround day - where phase 1 athletes depart and phase 2 athletes arrive. All athletes departing the Games will receive a bagged lunch for the bus ride.

Phase 1 athletes will be asked to check out of your accommodations in the morning, before you head out to any competitions. There will be a secure place to leave your luggage until you depart.

Phase 2 athletes will also check out of your accommodations in the morning, finish up competition, and attend the closing ceremony before getting on the bus to return home.

  • Every participant is allowed the following on the bus with them:

    • 1 piece of luggage

    • 1 sport equipment bag (if required for your sport)

    • 1 personal item (backpack)

    • A pillow

    • A sleeping bag

Be sure to have luggage tags or identifiers on your bags!

  • Safe Sport is an environment where individuals can have a healthy, supportive, and respectful sport experience, free from all forms of harassment and abuse. This guide helps you recognize and identify acceptable and unacceptable behaviours between you and your coach.

    Responsible Coaching Movement

Sport Manitoba has signed the pledge for the Responsible Coaching Movement (RCM), which means all Manitoba Games coaches adhere to the three steps to Responsible Coaching:

    1. Rule of 2

No coach should ever be alone one-on-one with an athlete. If a coach must be one-on-one with an athlete, they must do so in a public place within earshot or within view of another coach or adult.

    2. Background Screening

Screening in a Games program includes a criminal record check with a vulnerable sector search and a child abuse registry check.

    3. Ethics Training

Coaches must complete Respect in Sport (RiS) training. RiS is an online training course for coaches and sport leaders designed to assist in identifying and dealing with abuse, neglect, harassment, and bullying in sport.
